Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an All India Examination Conducted by all the Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; on behalf of the National Coordinating Board GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Govt. of India.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

GATE, one of the most recognised examination nationally, is conducted by the seven Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.

  • GATE qualified students are awarded Scholarship / Assistantship of Rs. 5000/- or more per month in all Engineering Colleges / Institutes.
  • GATE Score is mandatory qualification in obtaining admission for self financing students in certain Colleges / Institutes.
  • GATE qualified candidates are preferred by Foreign Universities & Industries.
  • GATE qualified candidates in the Engineering disciplines are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship at CSIR Laboratories.
  • GATE Score is preferred for certain Government Organisations for the post of Scientists.

Let's now analyze what makes GATE so important as a career deciding factor.

  1. GATE helps to identify meritorious and motivated candidates for admission to Post graduate programs in Engineering, Technology, Architecture and Pharmacy at the National Level.
  2. Leading Engineering colleges/Institutes specify GATE as mandatory qualification for admission to Postgraduate programs.
  3. A GATE qualified candidate is eligible for a scholarship of Rs. 5000/- or more per month in IISc., IIT's and all other AICTE approved Institutions.
  4. GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) in CSIR (Council for Scientific Research) Lab, the remuneration being Rs. 5000/- P.M. After completion of 5 years CSIR absorbs them as scientists in their lab.

Process Schedule

September first week: Commencement of sale of information Brochures & Application
Forms by IIT/IISc GATE Offices.

October first week: Last Date for receipt of requests for Information Brochure and Application Form by post.

October end - Nov. 1" week: Last Date for issue of Information Brochure and Application forms at - a) Bank Counters b) IIT/IISc GATE Offices.

January 2nd week: Last date for dispatch of Admit Cards by the respective Institutes

Feb.2nd Sunday: Date of Examination.

March 15: Announcement of Result.
